New Alloy For U.S. Army Motar

Evanston, IL, April 20, 2005 – QuesTek Innovations LLC announced that it has received a contract from the U.S. Army to create a unique high strength, high temperature alloy for mortar barrel applications. A new alloy, with better yield strength stability at elevated temperature, can potentially remove the need for cooling fins and reduce barrel thickness, providing a reduction in both weight and machining cost. The objective of this proposed work is to utilize QuesTek’s Materials By Design® technology for the development of a high strength high temperature alloy for dismounted mortar barrels.
