Castable and Creep Resistant Single Crystal Nickel Superalloy
Single crystal alloy designed to be used for industrial gas turbine blades
Superior castablity compared to incumbent alloys such as Rene N5 demonstrated
QuesTek's single crystal nickel superalloy (QTSX) exhibits superior castability compared to incumbent single crystal alloys such as PWA 1484, Rene N5, and CMSX-8. At the same time, it provides similar or better high-temperature mechanical properties. QTSX, which contains ~1 wt.% rhenium, is designed for turbine blades in industrial gas turbines. It exhibits the following benefits:
- Defect-free (e.g. freckle, hot tearing) castability of rhenium-free single crystal alloys
- Similar or better creep resistance compared to high-rhenium (≥3 wt.%) single-crystal alloys
- Lower cost due to low rhenium content and high casting yield in manufacturing
