QuesTek Innovations Releases Thermal Management and Heat Resistance Qualifications, Experience
Evanston, IL and Cambridge, MA – February 28, 2023 - QuesTek Innovations, the primary operating subsidiary of QuesTek International LLC, today released a summary profile of its Materials by Design® qualifications and experience in the Thermal Management and Heat Resistance application segment. The profile includes successful service engagements, internal R&D, proprietary materials patents, recognition, and now software.
To date, QuesTek has delivered over 200 successful engagements providing thermal management solutions. Clients have included the US Department of Energy, NASA, Rolls Royce, Office of Naval Research, Lockheed Martin, and Daido Steel. Materials systems addressed by these engagements include aluminum, magnesium, molybdenum, nickel, niobium, steel, tantalum, titanium, and refractory-based high entropy alloys.
QuesTek’s own internal R&D initiatives, alongside externally funded engagements, have resulted in 6 patents for QuesTek proprietary materials specifically designed for thermal management and heat resistance. The most recent patent awarded to QuesTek in this category is US 11,499,212 B2- Complex Concentrated Alloys: Materials, Methods, and Techniques for Manufacture. Overall, the Company now holds 23 US Patents for advanced alloys. QuesTek also has 8 US Patents pending for additional novel materials.
QuesTek deliverables in thermal management and heat resistance have been consistently recognized by the materials industry. The Department of Energy, through a strong history of engagements with QuesTek on thermal management, awarded $1.2 million in funding to QuesTek under the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). The funding is being applied to design and develop a novel materials solution for next-generation turbine blade alloys and compatible coating systems. QuesTek is teaming with leading turbine engine OEM Pratt & Whitney, Northwestern University, and the University of Minnesota.
QuesTek is currently integrating the modeling capabilities utilized in the ARPA-E program and other services engagements into the Alloy Design Toolkit and Alloy Qualification Toolkit in QuesTek’s ICMD® Digital Materials Design Platform. ICMD® was announced by QuesTek in September, 2022 with early test and evaluation underway now, and with full license and subscription availability set for the second half of 2023.
According to QuesTek COO Bill Mahoney, “If you or your organization are facing challenges with thermal management and heat resistance of your materials, whether in areas of process, structure, properties, or performance, QuesTek has proven that we can help you resolve those issues.”
