Noriaki Arai, Ph.D.

Materials Design Engineer

Education

Ph.D. Materials Science, California Institute of Technology, 2020

Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Keio University, 2012

Current Role at QuesTek

Noriaki Arai specializes in solidification process and ceramic materials. He helps to develop and implement thermodynamic, kinetic and mechanistic models for materials design projects.

Background and Specialization

Before joining QuesTek in 2020, he investigated growth and coarsening of dendrites in directional freeze casting to create a tough porous shape-memory ceramics and pharmaceutical filtration devices during his Ph.D. work. His Ph.D. dissertation was titled “Freeze Casting of Ceramics: Pore Design from Solidification Principles”.

Professional Associations

He is an active member in The Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society (TMS), and The American Ceramic Society.
