Under sponsorship of the U.S. Army
Aviation & Missile Command, QuesTek has been awarded a Phase II
SBIR for the development of computationally designed high temperature amorphous aluminum alloys. The anticipated benefit of this Phase II SBIR program is the ability to economically develop high-strength, high-temperature aluminum alloys. Such alloys would provide lighter weight and higher temperature capability in structural members for aerospace components that may currently be accomplished only with more costly metal matrix composites or heavier weight materials. This has the opportunity to reduce manufacturing costs for these components and provide for higher thrust-to-weight performance in aero-propulsion in both military and civilian aircraft. Longer-term commercial applications may also include components for the automotive market.
